Three 3G systems.

China will issue three licenses of TD-SCDMA, WCDMA and CDMA2000, which will belong to China Mobile, China Unicom and China Telecom respectively.

In January 2012, the number of China Mobile TD-SCDMA 3G subscribers increased to 53.94 million.

China Unicom WCMDA 3G subscribers increased to 43.07 million.

China Telecom CDMA200 3G subscribers increased to 38.7 million.

However, China Mobile 3G subscriber statistics include TD wireless Internet access, TD wireless fixed-line landline and so on. Unicom has the fastest growth rate in 3G network, ranking first in the industry.

TD-SCDMA:

Features: the full name is Time Division-Synchronous CDMA (time Division synchronous CDMA). It has unique advantages such as spectrum efficiency and flexibility for business support.

Advantages: China has its own 3G technology and is supported by the government.

WCDMA:

Features: the full name is Wideband CDMA, also known as CDMA Direct Spread, which means broadband code division multiple access, which is based on the 3G technical specification developed by GSM network. WCDMA is a 3G standard with the most extensive range of terminals and the most widely used countries and regions in the world.

538 WCDMA operators have launched WCDMA networks in 246 countries and regions, with 3G commercial market share exceeding 80%, while WCDMA backward compatible GSM networks have covered 184 countries and spread all over the world.

The number of WCDMA users has exceeded 600 million.

Advantages: it has high spread spectrum gain, large space for development, the strongest global roaming ability and the best technological maturity.

CDMA2000:

Features: CDMA2000 is a broadband CDMA technology developed from narrowband CDMA (CDMA IS95) technology, also known as CDMA Multi-Carrier, led by Qualcomm.

Advantages: can be directly upgraded from the original CDMA1X to 3G, low construction cost.

It is said that Unicom's WCDMA is better than mobile TD, and it is not entirely right, each has its own characteristics.

TD-SCDMA is an independent 3G standard in China. In May 2000, ITU (International Telecommunication Union) announced that TD-SCDMA has officially become a part of the 3G international standard of the third generation mobile communication standard of ITU, and it is ranked as the three mainstream 3G international standards along with European WCDMA and American CDMA2000.

TD-SCDMA was tried out for commercial use on April 1st, 2008.

TD-HSDPA is the next evolution technology of TD-SCDMA, which adopts TDD mode.

As a post-3G HSDPA technology, it can be applied to both WCDMA and TD-SCDMA.

After TD-HSDPA, TD will also implement TD-HSUPA, achieve the uplink rate of 2.2Mbps, and finally evolve to LTE TDD.

WCDMA is an upgrade of GSM (GSM is 2G technology, and its evolution is GSM, GPRS, EDGE, WCDMA). It is also the most widely used 3G technology in the world (GSM technology has 85% of global mobile users), technology and commercial applications.

WCDMA operators follow the evolution route of WCDMA, HSPA and LTE.

HSDPA and HSUPA are collectively referred to as HSPA, which has a faster uplink speed. China Unicom uses HSPA technology, of which big cities can be deployed using HSUPA, in June and July 2009.

The HSPA+ technology after HSPA has also begun to be built in Australia, Singapore and other places, with a speed as high as 21Mbps.
